About Chiropractic

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is the world’s largest non surgical, non drug prescribing primary contact health care profession. Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism.

Just as the skull protects the delicate tissues that comprise the brain, the mobile bones of the spine protect the vulnerable communication pathways of the spinal cord and nerve roots. Your nervous system controls and regulates your muscles, organs, glands and blood vessels and is made of a network of fibres, similar an electrical circuit. Interference to the nervous system may cause malfunction to message pathways between your brain and your body. This interference to messages can adversely affect balance and co-ordination of systems throughout your body.

Chiropractors have called this the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Vertebral, meaning bones of the spine. Subluxation, meaning less than a dislocation, and Complex, meaning consisting of more than one part, e.g. affecting Muscles, Nerves, Blood Vessels and Movement. Chiropractic is the science of locating offending spinal structures, the art of minimising their impact to the nervous system, and the philosophy of natural health care based on everyone’s inborn potential to be healthy and to adapt to life and its physical, chemical and emotional challenges.
